Be Out Standing in Your Field
Not long ago, I visited the "Field of Dreams"
movie site in Iowa. The movie proved very inspirational for
many people and provided several memorable lines: "If you build
it, he will come" and "Is this heaven?" "No it's Iowa." The
ball field looks just like you think it should and when you
drive up to it and see the white house, you feel as if you
are in the movie.
And then... there's the corn. In mid October there were only
a few dried ears here and there, but the stalks were still
standing tall, rustling in the warm autumn wind. Rows and rows
of corn - the very place that the ghostly ball players returned
to after their unexpected chance to play the game they loved.
While watching the movie many times over I have always been
fascinated by the technology that allowed those players to
literally walk into the corn and vanish - all the while knowing
there was no way on earth I would walk into that corn. I have
an irrational fear of that corn and the claustrophobic feeling
of being swallowed up by the rows. Last fall I tried to go
into a corn maze, but couldn't do it. Just walking near it
gave me a very uneasy feeling.
However, at the Field of Dreams, encouraged by a dear friend,
I faced my fear and walked a bit into the field. I was very
uneasy. But I did it! There's even
a picture -
Check it out. I faced my fear, with the support
of my friend, and I have to say, it is quite a big relief.
What are you afraid of? Is it holding you back from doing something you really
want to do? When you live with fear, big or small, it is a burden you carry that
seeps into you everyday life. Identify a friend who can help you take a step
toward overcoming your fear. Maybe they will even take a picture of YOUR big
moment.
Good Luck!
