Ôªø Tracy Knofla: Thriving In Chaos

Cross Train Your Family!

You shouldn't be the only one who can access a record in the company database, just as you shouldn't be the only one who can wash the whites without turning them pink!

As I'm in the training business, you'll note I have a bias here. I believe the key to successful employees lies in outstanding training. It is also the key to successful laundry, cooking dinner, dusting the furniture or cleaning the bedroom. Train your family to help with chores, but make the training outstanding and fun.

What makes training outstanding?
1. Engaging - Outstanding training gets your attention, it's relevant to your audience.
2. Be specific to the audience - Whether they are six, sixteen or thirty six.
3. Repetition is key. (But not in a boring way.) Great educators know that repetition and practice are two cornerstones in the training process.
4. Rewards and recognition. When the laundry is done correctly, there is a reward, not just the intrinsic reward of clean, folded laundry, but tangible rewards that make repeating the behavior desirable.

The problem with all cross training is that it takes time. Time that could be spent just doing the task which will usually be done more quickly and correctly if you do it yourself. The problem is that YOU ARE the only one doing it!

Invest the time in cross training your family. Everyone will reap the rewards - especially you!

Can't wait to see those sparkling whites!
