I Once was Lost...
I have a new phone. Everyone told me it was time. Although I must admit that my Connecticut Yankee sensibilities were offended at the thought of replacing a perfectly good device simply because there is a newer and better version. However, this tip isn't about frugality, it is about accepting help.
My new phone has GPS capability and turn-by-turn directions. It is actually quite amazing! I had been very resistant to purchasing a separate GPS system because I didn't want to have to carry another thing when I am on the road and I didn't want to have to remember to take it out of rental cars. I have left lots of things in rental cars. I even bragged about the joys of being lost! Basically, I denied myself the benefits of having a GPS because I didn?t want the hassle of caring for it.
Which, when I put it that way, sounds ridiculous - even to me. And yet, I hear a version of this same story from people all over the country. Particularly when they tell me they are overloaded. "Why don't you ask for help?" I innocently ask. The response consistently sounds like: "By the time I train someone, I could have done it myself." Basically they deny themselves the benefits of help because they don't want the hassle of preparing for it.
My GPS has increased my effectiveness and my quality of life in a way that I never expected. I am so happy I have it - I wish I had gotten it sooner. Asking for, and accepting help, can increase YOUR effectiveness and YOUR quality of life in a way that you might never expect.
Have a great day!
