Ԫ Tracy Knofla: Thriving In Chaos

A Simple Message

Often during a daylong workshop, I have participants decorate the meeting room, with among other things, their favorite motivational quotes. You can imagine that I've seen quite a few in my day, but this one knocked my socks off.

Don't be sad it's over, be grateful it happened!

Wow! How many situations can this simple statement be applied to?

- You had a great dinner with friends you know you won't see again for quite some time.
- Your daughter is crying because her senior year volleyball season is over.
- You met some wonderful new colleagues at a conference and now you all go your separate ways.
- A favorite client or co-worker is retiring.

You have a choice here; be sad about what you're losing or be grateful that you had the experience. As someone who feels every one of her emotions (often simultaneously) I am prone to the first. However, I have recently worked very hard to live the second. I want to be grateful for the people and experiences that have shaped my life.

As you get ready to celebrate Thanksgiving, remember that powerful statement, and create a list of what you are grateful for that rivals your holiday shopping list!

Happy Thanksgiving!
Tracy
