Ôªø Tracy Knofla: Thriving In Chaos

We've always done it that way !

Are you a creature of habit? Are you human? If you said 'yes' to the second question, then you definitely said 'yes' to the first. If you are human, you are a creature of habit. We as humans enjoy repetition. We also enjoy knowing how to do something. We generally think that if we already know how to do it, we are doing it efficiently.

In many cases, I will agree. We are generally more efficient at tasks we have done many times. Yet, when was the last time you did a 'systems analysis' of your work-practices? Are there some things that you or your department could be doing differently that would, indeed, make you more efficient?

Lots of offices as well as plenty of homes, run at less than optimum-speed due to old practices, procedures, or equipment. At home, it takes longer to clean a house with an old, ill kept vacuum. At work, it seems more convenient for you to make copies rather than send them to the copy center, when all of that copying takes you away from doing something else more important.

Let's reduce some of the chaos we feel by looking at our current ways of operating.
What could be changed for the better? What might get in the way of this change? Answer the second question first.

Let me hear what you've come up with.
