The Go-To Crew
Last Wednesday, water poured into my basement around the pipe leading from my furnace to the chimney. It really came in, creating a huge puddle around the base of the furnace. I freaked out a bit and called our furnace/oil guy, Tom.
Eighteen months ago a huge tree fell on the house. I freaked out and called my neighbor Larry.
A tire got slashed on my car while I was in Florida on vacation. I freaked out and called my neighbor Mike to see if anything else was damaged.
Do you see a pattern? Besides my freaking out a lot, I have a nice network of people to rely on when things go awry. They are friends, neighbors and service providers. They come from many walks of life. They are all very different from each other, but share the common characteristics of being wonderful people that I trust and to whom I owe a great debt.
I have a sweetheart with whom I share many of the burdens of everyday life. This is a wonderful thing. Yet, the expertise and experience of the rest of my "crew" have proved to be invaluable as I try to maneuver my extreme and mundane life experiences.
Building and maintaining these relationships takes time and sometimes money. For instance, Tom the oil guy, generally is not the cheapest oil provider. But I trust him and that more than makes up for the extra few dollars on my oil bill.
Who is a part of your Go-To Crew? Take time to develop and nurture your crew. You may never freak out again!
Enjoy Spring!
