Ôªø Tracy Knofla: Thriving In Chaos

Take Care of Your Health

Ouch!  As you are chewing your tofu burger you notice that a tooth is a bit sensitive.  Oh well, you think, “I’ll just chew on the other side!”  Two weeks later, while on your vacation in Disney World, that same tooth becomes infected causing you to miss a full day in the sun and forcing you to find a dentist to perform an emergency root canal.

Does this example ring true for you?  I can’t tell you the number of times I have put off “routine” medical procedures because I was “too busy” or it didn’t hurt enough to make a big deal out of it.  Usually I am okay, but there have been several notable examples of this backfiring on me!  And an emergency root canal is only fun for the dentist!

Nobody really enjoys a health tune up, let’s be honest it is just something you have to do regularly. Many of us have well developed systems for avoiding boring or routine things; however, lately I have seen too many lives disrupted for health related reasons, causing unspeakable chaos.  It’s time to put ourselves first.

Our automobiles come with a manual that clearly explains the routine maintenance that will keep it working at optimal levels.  With our bodies there are no owners manual – except for the recommendations of various health care agencies.  But we do know the basics.

1.  Have an annual check up.
2.  Perform skin and breast checks to look for changes.
3.  For men, have your PSA levels checked.
4.  Have regular mammograms.
5.  Visit the dentist for good oral hygiene.
6.  Pay attention to the changes in your body, how it feels, and operates. Alert your healthcare professional if things don’t seem right.
7.  Eat foods that are good for you more often than not.
8.  Sneak a bit of physical activity into your everyday routine.

Let’s reduce the amount of chaos for ourselves and others by taking good pro-active care of our health!

Gotta go, I have a massage booked for 2:45!
