Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My!
Remember when Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz sang these words with the Scarecrow? They were on a journey to Oz, the magical place where the Wizard would solve all of their problems. Wouldn't it be great if we had a Wizard to solve all of ours?
This song was sung while on the yellow brick road, crossing through the dark scary forest where even the trees were hostile. (They threw their apples, remember?) But, through it all, with arms linked, they skipped along on a mission. The singing must have helped ward off the fear.
Have you sung lately? Or done anything else to ward off the fear? Maybe the singing alone didn't ward off the fear. Maybe it was the fact that they had linked arms - that they had a partner with which to face the future. Or, maybe the skipping, the physical exertion, was responsible for their fearlessness.
Today it's not lions and tigers and bears, rather cut backs, belt tightening and layoffs that are creating fear within us. This economy has made it the most challenging time to be in business in most of your lifetimes. What resources do you have to help you face the fear? Is there a good friend that you can link arms with? Is there a co-worker that you can "sing a happy song with" instead of continuously complaining? Are you working off the stress by getting a bit of exercise?
There is no Wizard waiting a few miles away to save us. In fact, when Dorothy finally got her chance to confront the Wizard he could do nothing for her. She finally learned that she had the power to grant her own wish, just as you do! There may be a lion, tiger or bear around the corner, but there is also a set of resources to help you survive as well. Keep your eye out for them!
Anyone want to sing with me?
