Ôªø Tracy Knofla: Thriving In Chaos

Surprise!

I just finished watching season seven of American Idol. I have to say, I'm glad to have my life back. When you watch Idol, you have to make a commitment. It was a great season that ended with, at least in my mind, a big surprise. David Cook, a steady and strong competitor all season, who did not have a "defining moment" in the finale. His competitor, David Archuletta, peaked at just the right time and appeared to be the de-facto winner. When they announced that David Cook had won the competition by 12 million votes I couldn't have been more surprised. Pleasantly.

Walking home from my neighbor's where we watched the finale, I was grinning from ear to ear. I had been so sure that David Archuletta was going to win. I love that I got surprised. And of course, I started thinking about the good and bad surprises that life hands us.

Many of you rely on a strictly-adhered-to-schedule to manage your chaotic lives. Surprises are generally not welcomed - even the good ones! And yet, the definition of a surprise is something that is unexpected. Much of life cannot be planned. Don't be too surprised when things don't go as expected. In fact, you should be more surprised when they DO go as you expect. A bad surprise is an opportunity to test your character, and a good surprise is an opportunity to enjoy the wonderment of the world.

I hope you have a good surprise today!
