Visit your Friends!
Bette Midler sings the song, Friends
Oh, you got to have friends,
The feeling's oh so strong.
You got to have friends
to make that day last long.
It's true! We need our friends. However, one of the first things we sacrifice to the Gods of Chaos, is just that. Time with our friends.
I've had the same two best friends since 7th grade. We all still love each other and live very close to one another. We play an important role in each other's lives. But we hardly get together anymore.
We use the telephone and email to stay in touch. But we all feel the void of not being physically present with one another.
I have added many, many, many, dear friends to my life since 7th grade, and maintaining great friendships is a strong suite of mine. But emails and voice mails and even the long telephone call do not feed my soul the way a personal visit can.
A visit with your fiends, no matter how hard to schedule, is ALWAYS worth the effort. The memory of that visit will linger long after that lovely evening.
I had two great visits with my 7th grade pals, Carolyn and Bettina this summer. Thinking of them still makes me smile. I surprised my friend Beth in St. Louis at her dentist office last year, and we still giggle at the fun of it. I scheduled a dinner in July that took place in October. It took more coordination than NASA does for the space shuttle. But it was so worth it!
So, plan a round of golf with someone in the snow, or email your college friends and plan a getaway. Or just have a couple of beers after work. We need our friends to center us, energize us, and give us the strength to face the chaos of tomorrow!
Who are you gonna call?
